China 1992

China accounts for just 2.2% of world trade.

China’s first copyright law has been in effect for just 2 years.

The country’s first McDonalds® restaurant has been open for a year.

IPO Pang 1992

IPO Pang pioneers the first American bid for a City of Dalian rail infrastructure project.

IPO Pang establishes its first China office in Guangzhou.

IPO Pang instrumental in developing and promoting the first International Trade Center re-development for Chinese investors.

China 1993

2017 April - President Xi urges trade cooperation with the US at his first official meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida.

2018 March - National People's Congress annual legislative meeting votes to remove a two-term limit on the presidency from the constitution, allowing Xi Jinping to remain in office for longer than the conventional decade for recent Chinese leaders.

IPO Pang 1993

IPO Pang enters bid for client on Chinese infrastructure development utilizing proprietary technology for hydro-electric power generation.

China 1994 – 1995

China’s first World Cup appearance.

China extends compulsory education from 6-9 grades, increasing the literacy of the population.

IPO Pang 1994 – 1995

IPO Pang introduces the first Television Home Shopping Venue to CCTV, China’s official number one television station.

IPO Pang successfully procures the first joint venture import gold license.

China 1996 – 1998

China establishes the SIPO (State Intellectual Property Office) in order to consolidate trademark, patent, and copyright offices under a single authority.

Microsoft® and Intel® start Chinese operations.

IPO Pang 1996 – 1998

IPO Pang is instrumental in revising the “Traveler’s Exemption” law adopted by the Central Commission of Policies, enabling EMS to import foreign products tariff-free.

IPO Pang represented early bird clients interested in exploring horse racing in China.

China 2000

China patent law amended to extend the term of protection to 20 years and patent applications from foreign companies without a Chinese office can be filed through an authorized patent agent.

China’s GDP reached US $1.08 trillion and projected to quadruple that amount by year 2020.

IPO Pang leads a team of officials from the City of Oakland, California to the Sichuan Woolong Panda Preserve for Panda Cooperation with the China Wildlife Conservation Commission.

IPO Pang leads and procures a call center license for a retailer and negotiates the first JV with EMS for delivery on a COD basis.

China 2001 – 2002

China enters into the WTO as its 143rd member.

The IOC announces Beijing will host the 2008 Olympics.

China’s first World Cup appearance.

IPO Pang is instrumental in procuring a timeslot on CETV for an Australian home shopping company.

IPO Pang negotiates the buyback of a century-old trademark from local vendor with prior rights.

IPO Pang procures license and approval from the Guangdong government for one of the first Sino-American logistics companies.

China 2003 – 2004

China reaches 94 million Internet users.

China Mobile users hit 325 million.

China contributes to one-third of global economic growth.

IPO Pang helps procure the first scratch-off instant lottery licenses by a foreign company.

IPO Pang negotiates the first instant lottery television program for distribution via the Shanghai Media Group.

IPO Pang opens its Shanghai office in Pudong New District.

China 2005 – 2006

China implements new and amended corporation law to encourage foreign investments.

China’s GDP growth at 10.7%, highest in 11 years.

China’s urban disposable income increased 12.1% from the year before, the largest gain in history.

IPO Pang expands office space and personnel.

IPO Pang negotiates options for casino development and license concessions in Macau.

IPO Pang meets with the Ministry of Civil Affairs and Ministry of Finance for cooperation.

China 2007 -2008

China reaches the world’s largest Internet population with over 210 million users.

China hosts Beijing Olympics, executing display of fireworks and garnering the most number of gold medals.

IPO Pang meets with the Ministry of Sports on behalf of sports-oriented clients to pave the way for cooperation.

IPO Pang disseminates and educates Ministry of Finance on online gambling practices in Europe.

China 2009 – 2010

China becomes the world’s largest market for automobiles.

China’s total number of Internet users reaches 457 million.

China surpasses 900 million mobile phone users.

China surpasses US as top energy user.

IPO Pang 2009 – 2010

IPO Pang awarded recognition as a fierce fighter of piracy and conducted numerous raids and seizures on behalf of clients.

IPO Pang enlarges practice in political lobbying and consultancy, and forms division focused on restructuring ventures in distress.

IPO Pang successfully defends numerous IP cancellation cases.

China 2011 – 2012

Vice-President Xi Jinping named vice-chairman of powerful Central Military Commission, in a move widely seen as a step towards succeeding President Hu Jintao.

2011 February - China formally overtakes Japan to become the world's second-largest economy after Tokyo published figures showing a Japanese GDP rise of only four per cent in 2010.

2012 June - China completes its first ever manual docking of a spacecraft with another space module, when Shenzhou-9 docked with the Tiangong-1 lab module without relying on an automated system. China's first female astronaut, Liu Yang, took part.

Firm expands practice to include franchising and Labor and Employment Law.

China 2013 – 2014

2013 March - Xi Jinping takes over as president, completing the once-in-a-decade transfer of power to a new generation of leaders. He launches an efficiency and anti-corruption drive.

2014 January - China allows foreign companies majority ownership of some telecom and internet services in the Shanghai free trade zone.

Firm’s legal advisory revenue on foreign direct investment increased by 31%

China 2015 – 2016

2015 October The Communist Party announces it has decided to end the decades-old one-child policy.

2016 January - Economic growth in 2015 falls to lowest rate in 25 years (6.9%, down from 7.3% in 2014), and International Monetary Fund predicts further deceleration over next two years.

Firm’s IP practice doubled in size and the firm’s active participation in trade associations and legal organizations numbered 10.

China 2017– 2018

China 2019 – 2020

2019 June - Hong Kong sees start of months of anti-government and pro-democracy protests, involving violent clashes with police, against a proposal to allow extradition to mainland China.

2020 January - Outbreak of coronavirus in eastern Hubei province leads to widespread travel restrictions.
